Federal law sets the minimum age at 14 if the employer is subject to the law "As a general rule, the FLSA sets 14 years of age as the minimum age for employment, and limits the number of hours worked by minors under the age of 16". Most employers are unwilling to hire anyone under the age of 16 because of the limited hours and other requirements that apply to hiring 14 and 15 year olds.
