I'm moving there in about 19 days from florida. Here we have firework stores open all year long. And can get some impressive fireworks in them. Was just wondering if you could buy your own in Washington too.

there are plenty of indian stores in wash.........and usa is famous for its good food......almost evrything under the sun is availablethere are stores selling microwavable iddlis and doas which are sometimes even better than it is here.........wish you bon vovage

There are plenty of Indian grocery stores and restaurants in the Seattle area. You are likely to find them rather more expensive than ones in India itself, but salaries are also higher. Most of the necessary ingredients for Indian cooking can be easily obtained in the Seattle area, though some things like fresh coconuts can be a little hard to find/expensive. Packaged Indian foods are easily available, some of them in regular supermarkets, not just in Indian grocery stores. If you are muslim, there are halal butchers, and Seattle is a great city to be a vegetarian. Note that most of the Indian groceries and restaurants in the Seattle have a strong northern bias with foods of the Punjab dominant. If there is a southern Indian restaurant in the area (foods of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, etc.), I have yet to find it. There are a few in Vancouver, BC.

How are the living conditions in the norhtern part of VA near Washington D.C?
My family might be moving so that my husband can work in Washington D.C to the northen tip of VA, How are the schools, doctors, neighborhoods, churches, libraries, etc.? Just looking for opinions.

Can you be more specific. The northern tip of VA near DC is rather large and encompasses a vast difference in cultures. Arlington is a nice city with lot's of shopping and is more residential than Rosslyn, with is also near DC. Rosslyn is considerably more expensive than arlington. Arlington, however offers more cultural diversity than rosslyn.

Very nice, its big horse country up there, cost of living is rather high. My in-laws live 30 minutes west of DC in VA. I love it there aside from prices

We just did a major relocation for my husbands job in DC from Cleveland to Manassas Park, VA. It is REALLY nice around here, schools are great. There is a high spanish population, but all of them are very nice. We were shocked at housing prices, but everything else seemed the same as Ohio. There are many churches around here, but we haven't visited them yet. The library in Manassas (Manassas Park is a small town just outside of Manassas which is much bigger) is okay, but I've only been to the branch. It was the equivalent of the smaller branches from my home. Once again, you probably will be shocked at housing prices, but you will get used to it. We are renting for $1700 a single family home. I think we kind of got a break on it. Expect to pay around that much for renting. To buy.....uh....there's no way we could do it. We picked Manassas from a map and a realtor. My husband takes the VRE train in to town every day. This has turned out to be a blessing...the train has been reliable and very near to us. It saves us a ton of gas on travel (and time). When we were moving I asked similar questions. A lot of people wrote about gangs being around the area. I am here to tell you that EVERYONE around here has been extremely nice and decent, and we have seen no signs of such goings on. If you would like to know more, please feel free to email me. The tip or as it is called by locals Northern Virginia or No. Va is huge. Arlington and Fairfax Counties are consistently 2 of the best school systems in the Nation. There are many hospitals in No. Va but Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax County is unbeatable. It is ranked very highly by U.S News and World Report. I am from Fairfax County (the largest in No. Va and all of Virginia for that matter with over 1,000,000 residents.) and we have 21 libraries I used to volunteer at one and they are great. Depending on where you are coming from No. Va may be an adjustment and you may experience culture shock, because of the diversity, but that is what makes so No. Va amazing. The suburbs spread out forever around D.C so be ready for some major and I mean major traffic backups. Falls Church might be a great place to live they have their own school system (Falls Church Public Schools) and is close in to Washington, and is very historic. If you like shopping Tysons Corner is the way to go there are 2 malls with every store imaginable. Overall No. Va is an amazing place to live despite the gridlock. Hope this helps. P.S No. Va has a very low crime rate especially in Fairfax County is very low.

We just moved to Sterling, VA, which is right across the Fairfax Co. line into Loudoun Co. So far we are enjoying it. Very low crime rate, and right by the Dulles Town Center mall. I work in Sterling, but my wife drives to DC everyday. The traffic can get pretty bad, but she makes about 25 miles in 45 min. to an hour taking the toll road to the beltway. As was mentioned, the biggest shock has been the real-estate prices. We pay $1400/mo. for a 2br apartment, and we got a deal on that. If you are going to rent, expect to pay anywhere from $1400 to $2000 a month. Average cost of a house is just under a half-million. There is a large immigrant population in the area. If you enjoy diversity, then this is the place for you. Hispanic, East-Asian, and Middle-Eastern are the largest groups I have encountered.

traffic sucks.. there is always traffic on 95. the area is nice but cost of living is high. lots of parks, schools, and hospitals. Fairfax is the best hospital. Potomac hospital sucks. if you get sick in the night you might as well wait until the morning togo to the doctors because you will be sitting there all night long anyway.Plenty of big libraries. Public transportation also.

Canada has oil company lobbyists trying to alter US laws so they can sell us more oil China pays Americans to lobby Washington to lighten up on China's human rights record Israel pays hundreds of millions to thousands of lobbyists each year to make sure the US doesn't later it's foreign policy.... In other words, America's politicians are being wined dined and their palms greased each day by foreign interests, both Democrat and Republican. Does this bother you?

Last year the amount is suppose to be $3.7 billion*. that's millions t each ne of them. they can use the cash to get reelected, hire family members t "manage" the money for $100,000, hire them to campaign and a host other tings legally. The party in the majority always gets a 55-45 split of the money so right now the Democrats are getting the extra 10$. ONe sad thing is that the chairmen of committees normally get the most donations from whatever industry they are suppose to be keeping in line. Like Sen. Baucus over the health care deal and got millions from the insurance folks and drug guys. Got to laugh as the law firms gave over $300 million. You can go to the below site and put in a name and find out how much they had donated, from whom and how they voted. Sadly this ha been going on for a long time and it's legal. now who should they represent us paying them about a hundred and half grand a year or the lobbyists paying them millions? It should bother everyone, but the House and Senate members set it up this way, i guess while we were not looking. Hey President Obama campaigned on stopping it, guess he has been busy. It should be a federal offense for any government official to accept campaign contributions or perks, either directly or indirectly from ANY foreign government or their lobbyists, friend or foe. In my mind it is treason. Does it bother me? This is the most important issue facing America today. I actually don't think there would be a war on terror right now if an anti-foreign lobbyist law had been enacted 50 years ago. Thomas Jefferson warned us 200 years ago about the danger of foreign entanglements. Look at link below for list of America's most powerful lobbies... Our representatives need to be for AMERICA FIRST.

Tax questions about living in oregon and working in washington?
I am moving to Portland Oregon and will be working in Vancover Washington as a massage therapist. What is the deal with paying income tax to Oregon if I am working in Washington? How do I go about it? Do I have to withhold my own taxes?

It looks like you have to pay an estimated tax. I would say withhold your own taxes, but first talk to your employer. If you are close to the border, I they deal with this all the time and may even have a system set up with Oregon to withhold taxes.

IT depends on who does your payroll. When I lived in Portland and worked at the Fred Meyer store in Vancouver, the payroll department automatically took out Oregon taxes based on my address listed with the payroll department. I still had to file with Oregon State at the end of the year as normal, I didn't have to file anything with Washington they didnt affect my pay at all, just Federal and Oregon.

If your phone has a SIM card, you can use it somewhere else. You just have to put your SIM card in a phone in Washington. If you have a big company like Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile they almost always include roaming on the mainland for free. Call Customer Service or look at your bill to see if it's included. Personally I use Mobi and just use phone cards on the mainland.

Rumble and the rest of the morning team will continue, with an on-air announcement expected on the show Wednesday. In a message to Facebook Friends, Griffiths wrote: "FYI: as of 8/3/09 I have left FM99 WNOR - no more Tommy and Rumble. It breaks my heart, but it's time to move on. Griffith and Del Toro made headlines when during an April Fools stunt they announced Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach was going to blow up. Both were fined and suspended. Rumble and the rest of the morning team will continue, with an on-air announcement expected on the show Wednesday. In a message to Facebook Friends, Griffiths wrote: "FYI: as of 8/3/09 I have left FM99 WNOR - no more Tommy and Rumble. It breaks my heart, but it's time to move on. As, we are currently going thru a divorce. My question is if I file separately, then I will probably not owe any state taxes. Does anyone know a good attorney in Clark County, Washington that would work for a portion of the compensation?
Okay, here goes. I was sentenced to 45 days for a crime I did not commit. I appealed the case and I won, after I won the state came back and wanted to do a retrial. I was going to the court dates and dealing with this problem. I lost a job over all this and it really just doesn't seem right to me that my family had to go through that for something I didn't do. I could understand if I was guilty but I'm not and it has been proven and I want compensation.

Great tattoo artist in Washington that guarantees work w/ free touch-ups
Great tattoo artist in Washington that guarantees work w/ free touch-ups?
I live in Bellevue, WA. I really really wanna get a new tattoo. I have several and well, my skin doesn't hold color extremely well. There are several places out of state that guarantee their work with free touch-ups (3-6 months, & lifetime!) but with what I want I don't think I'd be able to afford getting the tattoo and spending to go out of state to get it. Any recommendations?

I think there is a place on Pacific Ave in the Lakewood/ Tacoma area. That's where my husband and a bunch of his military Friends went. Some of them were very pale.

Ok i recently got denied a job because I was a minor. I have heard though that you can get a job as a minor if you have a work permit or the employer petitions you to work 40 hrs. If that true? what are the laws? Can i get a work permit? I need details. Please

I live in Broadlands, VA (20148) and work in Washington DC M-F and I hear about commuter buses and such and waht to know the best (cheapest and/or fastest) to get to and from.

$40,000 divided by 12 months a year is $3,333.33 a month. Depending on what deductions you claimed and what's withheld for them, plus benefits like health insurance, dental insurance, and other deductions, at about 65% your take-home sounds right.

i make 40 K here in texas. That's about what I take home, but I take out for my retirement, union and a "cookie jar fund" at my credit union, oh and also health insurance. We don't have income taxes here. s

Should I look for seasonal summer work in Colorado, Washington State, Canada or Alaska this summer?
NO east coast! I'm talking about working @ a seasonal summer resort hotel or something like that. I worked in Skagway but people tell me there is much more to Alaska than that~ I was born in Fairbanks & I KNOW many of these places in AK (not uncommon ) are NOT accessible by road. which is the only sucky thing lol.

Sigh, to be young again and be able to just pick up and go somewhere adventurous for the summer. Well, if you are from Alaska why not try Washington State? Colorado is awesome too. Both have some beautiful wilderness and both have some amazing metropolitan areas too. Good luck--(and I am so jealous).

Unfortunately there aren't any great paying summer jobs in Alaska unless you have special skills (aviation mechanic comes to mind). If you want to come back to Alaska that's one thing but if that's not your motivation you'll never make up the transportation costs. Colorado's seasonal work is in the winter... (ski resorts) not the summer. There is seasonal work in Washington and Oregon anywhere there are resorts. The pay isn't great but it's a good place to spend a summer.

How do you apply for state disability in Washington State?
I am asking this for a friend, he was working in Washington state and got hurt on his job and is now out of work, for 8 months and ended up having a surgery. He does not have any income right now and is pending a legal case with his last job. I am wondering: Does Washington state has DIB or SDI? If so, how can you apply, as he now resides in California and needs to do it over the internet if possible. Thank you in advance for your help.

I think it's one of these two places: Show Quality Metal Finishing (206) 762-6717 1115 S Elizabeth St Seattle, WA 98108-2733 Or: Mastercraft Metal Finishing Inc (206) 622-6380 1175 Harrison St Seattle, WA 98109-5318 I know that at least one of them does copper-nickle-chrome tripple plating and I think they do black chrome. If you're doing black chrome, do some research. The base plating can make a difference in the appearance of black chrome. Tell them exactly what look you're after. Volunteer work in Washington State
Volunteer work in Washington State
I want to volunteer some place whilst I wait for my Green Card (I married an American and came over from England) - I have a SSN but no right to work, so is volunteering okay? How would I find places to do this at? Thanks I'm so very bored waiting for my green card! I'd love animal-based work but anything will do really. I'm 22.

Currently I'm working on a temporary 6 month contract in Washington but my permanent residence is in Iowa and if it matters I am getting per diem. Does Iowa or Washington State Income Tax get withheld from my paychecks? Currently Iowa state income tax is being withheld. We live right on the Oregon/Washington border so my husband is here working as well on the Oregon side and he's getting Oregon state income tax withheld. Which state income tax should be withheld from my husband's and my pay check?

Washington does not have an individual income tax, so you will never see Washington income tax withheld. Oregon does. As far as what gets withheld that depends on where the company is located and how sharp their HR department is. They often screw up temporary positions and multiple state workers. If your husband works for an Oregon company in Oregon he probably will only have Oregon tax withheld. Most of the time employers will only withhold the local income tax where you are working unless they have reason to know other withholding is required. When it comes to filing the tax returns, you are going to file a resident Iowa tax return and a non-resident Oregon tax return. Income earned in Oregon will be taxed to Oregon. All income earned everywhere will be taxed to Iowa. You will have a credit on the Iowa return for taxes paid to Oregon. So it makes sense to have Oregon tax withheld on your husband's paycheck and Iowa tax withheld on yours.

Fairfax county is a nice area to live in, but a bit pricey. In Stafford there are a lot of affordable townhouses and it isn't too long of a commute.

If affordability is a top priority, check out Takoma Park, MD (it's a little hippy, but quite nice in its own way) and Greenbelt, MD. Greenbelt isn't the hippest place in the area, but it is affordable and it's an easy commute into DC on the metro.

The cheapest way is to rent a car and drive. A cab will run you at least $50 and more. There might be a bus but I can't say for sure. I'm sorry, I have to diagree, the cost of living may not be bad, but the cost of housing is. Do what most people do.... live in the outer suburbs and commute in! Or, a lot of the federal government has locations now outside of DC in the less expensive areas of VA & MD. Check into those too.

Pay for many jobs is adjusted accordingly to cost of living. Maybe not perfectly so, but should allow you to live reasonably in the DC area. Depending on your age and situation, many younger people live with a roommate. That helps enormously with costs. Also, many people live somewhere convenient to Metro, so as not to need a car. It's also possible to find modestly priced and reasonable places to live by looking on Craigslist. Also, I know Whole Foods (or "Whole Paycheck") is a popular place to buy groceries. But, there are other supermarkets (Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, Shoppers). Also, there is Costco here which can help with keeping costs down.

No. Obviously you know little of politics. In order to make it work, Obama and McCain should stay far away from the process and little the house and senate deal with it. You bring the candidates in...they bring the media...and everyone is posturing for position. McCain is using this crisis to boost his numbers...that is wrong. To the ignorant below me: McCain is in an interview for the President of the United States...not to run for Senator again (or is he?). AS such...he must be able to handle more than one crisis at a time. In todays age...there is telephone, email, fax, video conference ...all of which he can use to get his point across. McCain was told he wasn't needed, because the committees already had things under control, and because they didn't want the media circus while they were trying to get work done. Do you seriously think the presence of one additional senator is going to make or break the economy? Do you really think we'll sink into a depression because John McCain isn't sitting in the Capitol for a few hours on a Friday night? This crisis has been unfolding for weeks, even months, and now if McCain doesn't run to DC all of a sudden, we're screwed? Come on. Are you really that gullible? Considering that neither Obama nor McCain are on any of the relevant committees and McCain has admitted that he doesn't know much about the economy, I don't see any other reason for McCain to go to Washington now other than to try to postpone the debate until his numbers aren't so dismal. Besides, when McCain got there, almost all of the work was done. What, was he trying to take credit for other people's work? And why did he suspend his campaign? Surely, if Palin wanted to show the nation she's able to pick up the presidency if needed, she could have spent these couple of days campaigning for the both of them.

I don't know. The answer seems pretty clear to me. I guess Obama figures the worse the economy is the more it helps him politically and he doesn't seem to care about the American people or what they are experiencing. No, the debate can be postponed a few days to give the necessary time to find a reasonable resolution to the worst financial crisis facing our nation since 1929. It was stunning to hear Obama say that, "they (meaning Congress) will call him IF they need him and IF there is anything HELPFUL he could do." He's confirmed to me that he is just not ready to lead.

Pit Bull, I agree! I want all of my representatives front and center in Washington, worried sheetless about what their colleagues are doing in this legislation. I don't want them saying...6 months down the road, oh crap, I signed that???? Further, it IS the responsibilities of our elected officials, running for office to ensure they understand what this congress and administration are doing and the impact it will have on the NEXT! All of this BS about McCain, traveling to Washington is posturing is crap! He should be here and they should all stand together in front of the American People saying: "We must do this for the betterment of our Country." Nothing more, nothing less.

I live in Seattle and I just got my casino dealer certificate, anyone here know any good small casino in Washington State to work at. I prefer to work in a small casino, any small casino that have alot of people play?

There are some in LaCenter that are good. You might have trouble finding ones close to Seattle. I think there are some in Chehalis.

I wanna move back home and get a job out there, what do I have to do to get cert. in washington? Do I have to take another test?

You will have to take the test in Washington. You can opt out of the classes and just take the test.

yes you would each state is different and wyou would need to take the test in Washington St. and if you passed the test in NY you should be able to do the same in Washington Congrats!! and Good Luck on the next test!!
