I asked this question before: "How does the Washington subway work" and now I have another one inside.?
I asked this question a few hours ago: "How does the Washington subway work? I'm from New York (even though I'm a huge Eagles fan) and I'm traveling to the University of Maryland in College Park, MD for a student leadership program. My parents are driving me down, but they don't want to drive down to pick me up, so I'm taking an Amtrak train from Union Station to Penn Station in New York. What is the best way to get from College Park, MD to Union Station. I called the college and they were absolutely no help. I could take a taxi but I would rather not. The best way I see is to take the green line to Fort Trotten and take the red to Union Station. I also see something about a MARC train and I don't know exactly how that works either. Can someone please help me out here? Thanks you in advance for all your help and great answers! On another note, why does the subway go outside the city? And also, no offense to anyone, but the New York subways and train systems are much better. How does the Washington subway work? I got a few good answers, now I'm wondering how to go about riding the subway (for example, in New York we have metrocards), how much one ride is, and if transferring is easy or if it's like complicated. I know this sounds like a little stupid, but I'm unfamiliar and I don't want to screw up.

you have metro cards and the cost depends on what time it is what day it is and how far you're going also switching trains is very easy you just walk to the other train you need to ride as for why the metro goes out side dc it's so people can get to work in dc from the suburbs it's an easy and convenient way to get into dc not to mention environmentally friendly
2 :
I found a website for University of MD that explains how to get to UMD from union station. So you could just follow these in reverse, since you are going from UMD to Union Station. Here's the site: http://www.cvs.umd.edu/visitors/maps.html 1.Take the Red Line train (toward Glenmont); transfer at the Fort Totten station to the Green Line train (toward Greenbelt); get off at the College Park/U of MD station. 2.Or take the Green Line train (toward Greenbelt); get off at the College Park/U of MD station. 3.The university's Shuttle-UM buses pick up university-bound passengers on the EAST side of the metrorail station. Shuttle-UM service between the College Park Station (Green line) and the center of campus is very frequent - every 8 minutes peak hours most weekdays - is offered year-round, and is open to everyone - no ID required. 4.Get off the Shuttle-UM at the "M" (or second) stop for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Cross street and walk south toward Mitchell Building. Also - I'm guessing you've already come across the D.C. metro website. If not, it's http://www.wmata.com/index.cfm You could also try the "Trip Planner" tool on the left side of the page. Don't forget that you can enter "Union Station" as your destination. The D.C. subway "metro" does go outside the city. The city of D.C. itself is quite small (only 10 miles across and 10 miles tall). Therefore the areas of MD and VA along the edges of the city are very urban. Its easy to buy metro cards at the kiosks inside the stations. Don't hesitate to ask the station manager for help - they are very friendly and easy to find.

Doesn't the NYC subway go outside the city too? And I've heard that the NYC subway system can be confusing as well. Anyway. It goes outside of the city because there are many commuters and destinations in the suburbs, so metro accomodates the entire DC metro area. Fares are kind of dumb, especially with the fare increases, and fares are more expensive during peak periods (rush hour). Using the trip planner will show you how much fare will cost, or the fares are listed above the machines to buy fare at the stations. You can use a farecard or a SmartTrip card. SmartTrip cards are the easiest to use. You can buy fares at the station, or online on metro's website. There are also places in the DC metro area which sell SmartTrip cards (ie: CVS). There are also day/week passes but they can only be used after 9:30 am, and IMO aren't worth it unless you constantly use metro multiple times per day. The metrorail system is actually very easy once you get used to it. Metro's website is: http://www.wmata.com Also, we're used to people who are new to the city and the system as well as tourists. Often people will help you out if you ask, and you can always ask a metro employee for help as well.
4 :
Yes, take the Green line from the College Park station toward Branch Ave, changing to the Red Line (direction: Shady Grove) at Fort Totten. It will take you right to Union Station, which is much easier to navigate than NYC's Penn Station, actually. When you are at the College Park station, you buy a ticket from the machines. You'll see the fare listed on the machine itself -- just look for how much it costs to go from College Park to Union Station for peak (rush hour) or non-peak (non rush hour). You put the card into the turnstile and then keep it to do the same thing to exit at Union Station. That last part is important since, unlike NYC, you need to use the card to exit. If you're confused at any point, ask the worker in the booth. The Metro is a mix of the NY subway and MTA or LIRR or NJ Transit. DC is smaller, so other than the MARC in Maryland and the VRE in Virginia (both are limited), most suburbanites who commute by train come by Metro. The NYC subway covers way more ground, has far more stops, and runs 24 hours, but then the DC Metro is so clean and quiet. No screeching brakes! If you could combine the two, you'd have a great system.
5 :
Otonito gave you good information and links but on another note - the DC Metro compared to NYC Subway is efficient and easier to use. You are moving far more people in a more dense area in NYC and the layers of subway can be horribly confusing. The DC Metro is clearly marked - easy to use and goes near about everything that you would want to see, do or where people work. It goes outside the DC area so there is an efficient way to get people who live in the suburbs or surrounding DC area to their jobs. When traveling with my 12 year old - I stood him in front of the ticket kiosk and had him figure out how to get a ticket and what train we needed to use - took him less than 10 min to figure it out - so I'm confident that you will too.
6 :
It appears that you are a 'younger-than-college-age' teenager attending a program for smart high school students. I'll also assume that this is a one-week program that you are retuning home from on a Friday or Saturday. There is an Amtrak station closer to College Park than Union Station, New Carollton Station. I think you'll find that most Amtrak trains (non Acela Express) stop at New Carollton. http://www.amtrak.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=am/am2Station/Station_Page&code=NCR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Carrollton_(Washington_Metro) http://www.stationmasters.com/System_Map/NEWCARRO/newcarro.html New Carolton Station is 6 mi from the Uni. of Maryland. A short taxi ride. -or- A 10-11 min bus ride on the F6 bus. Play with the trip planner to see the bus F6 times that can get you from College Park to New Carollton. http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/tripplanner/tripplanner.cfm

Can you go to dental school in washington, and work as a dentist in california

Can you go to dental school in washington, and work as a dentist in california?
I have wanted to be a dentist since I was a young child, but in my senior year of high school, decided that I didn't want to own my business and thought about changing my career path. I was talking to my mother who works as a Psych Tech Nurse at a state prison, and she told me about the dentist at the prison. I was sold! I am currently pursuing my career path to become a dentist, and work at a California State Prison, but I really want to go to University of Washington School of Dentistry. Is it possible to graduate from UWSD and be able to work in California and take state boards without having to take additional schooling or tests? Please help!

Yes, your degrees count everywhere in the U.S unless we have to get a degree everywhere if we ever want to move someplace new and still work.
2 :
EACH STATE MAY HAVE LICENSING REQ.
3 :
You can attend ANY dental school in the US and upon earning your DDS/DMD, you can practice in ANY state of the union as long as you pass the state's dental board exam. When you graduate from dental school in Washington state, you need not take their dental board exam if you do not plan to practice there. So YES, you can practice dentistry in CA even if you attended UWSD and you only need to pass the CA dental Board exams (written and practical). No additional schooling is necessary.

WORK? surely you jest.
2 :
Because the last I checked, there are 50 states to this union in addition to the area classified as Washington D.C. Not to mention we have ambassadors and staff around the world representing us. Federal government does many different things.
3 :
Because only 10 percent of federal jobs are in DC...were you going somewhere else with this? Federal jobs include FBI agents, customs officers, forest rangers, etc., the majority of which are located elsewhere.
4 :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huITa_MXeWc
5 :
Because there is more to the country than Washington DC. I mean, what if all the federal employees were there? There would be no military bases anywhere else. Heck, there wouldn't even be a recruiter near you. If you wanted to go get your mail, you'd have to go to Washington to get it. Weather forecasts would be great for the Potomac Valley, since that's where all of the National Weather Service people would be. Goodbye food safety! I mean, for the people in the DC area, they'd get the same food inspection services. But not you. The Coast Guard would be protecting the banks of the Potomac River and nowhere else. The Army Corps of Engineers wouldn't be building any dams or levees anywhere else. Is there a federal crime going on? It's too bad that every single agent of the FBI, ATF and Secret Service are in the DC metro area. Need a replacement Social Security card? Hope you're ready to drive to DC, because your local office just closed. And so on, and so on. We live in a very large country, you know.

I need to find an affordable home repair contractor for the Washington, DC area

I need to find an affordable home repair contractor for the Washington, DC area?
My home is old and it needs a lot of work. However, I am on a fixed budget, and I need a contractor who can do anything from drywall, painting, yard work and plumbing, etc. To get a contractor to do work in the Washington, DC area is hard, because certain parts of DC has a lot of historical site laws which can place lot of restrictions on home owners and contractors. I need help before my old house becomes a serious problem.

Good luck, I would try going to craigslist, look through there, and always get estimates first. Get everything in writing, and tell them you only pay as the work is done, so if they say $2000 to paint your house, tell them to paint, and submit a bill weekly for the work completed, and you'll pay them weekley.
2 :
I'm sure there are a few in Maryland and Virginia who could help you as well.

under FLSA a minor 14 or older may work in an: Office, Grocery store, Retail store, Restaurant, Movie Theater, Baseball Park, Amusement park, or Gasoline service station BUT due to the high the unemployment rate at this time it is very difficult for minors to get a job.........the jobs that use to be held by teens and retirees are now being taken by adults trying to support their families......... Businesses such as Publix, Kroger's, Food Lion, Sonic, Chic-Fill-A, McDonald's, Winn-Dixie, Krystal's, Dairy Queen, and Burger King along with smaller local businesses that are in the same genre tend to hire those your age. Fast-food and grocery stores are willing and able to train new employees but........................ Minors tend to have many issues that affect their ability to work such as tardiness, absenteeism, and numerous schedule requests, poor work-ethic etcetera. I am NOT implying you will have those issues but the fact that many your age do makes it more difficult for you to get an opportunity to prove your worth. Because of this you must be able to show through words and actions that you are reliable, dependable, punctual, detail orcoach-ablerainable, coachable, punctual, mature and team oriented. You will also need great references since you don't have work experience. Talk to teachers, counselors, clergy, coaches, club sponsors, and directors of places you have volunteered or people you have done casual labor for and ask them about giving you a reference. Get accurate, current contact information for them and ask them to be ready to get calls for references from potential employers. Remember: Most businesses are individually owned and operated so it is the owner’s policy and past experience with minors that will determine if they will hire you. Apply everywhere you can, the worse that can happen is they don't hire you. click on the following link for information about child labor laws http://www.youthrules.dol.gov US Department of Labor YouthRules

Will you vote for the Israel to become the 51st State in the USA, and for Jerusalem to become the new Capital?
Share your ideas and dreams on this topic. It could work! Washington DC could become part of Virginia, and the Israeli part of Jerusalem could become a District for the Capital of the USA. Bob S--that's just a tad overboard with the paranoia, isn't it? Wow. It just so happens that this idea was put forth by a very respected Naval Scholar, in his book, 'The Pentagon's New Map.' It is a serious topic, not one made for inciting any bias one way or the other.

yeh we could do it, but we have no real interest in being that responsible for those people...we'll give them money all day, but we have every intention of leaving them in the lurch, if the guano hits the fan.... which is something we couldn't do, if they were a state of the union.
8 :
I'm surprised you can spell.
9 :
You are nothing but a left wing Islamofascist troll. You are trying to incite anger against Israel for manufactured reasons. Besides, you are totally ignorant of where DC came from. The District of Columbia (Washington DC) was originally composed of land ceded by Virgina and Maryland. Only Maryland's land remains in DC, so if we established a new capital anywhere, then the land would return to Maryland instead of being gifted to Virginia as you ignorantly suggest. The costs and implications of moving a capital are such that it usually only happens if a nation has a fundamental change in government, is conquered or faces a catastrophe which destroys its capital. Japan moved its capital to Kyoto in WWII, but returned to Tokyo after the war. China moved its capitan from Nan Jing to Bei Jing when the Forbidden City was built. The whole city of Beijing was originally designed to celebrate the superiority of the contemporary dynasty and the land and people it ruled. England never moved its capital. France didn't even after it was captured. Russia considered moving its capital to Tubalsk during WWII but didn't/ Countries don't just change their capitals willy-nilly. OF course your question wasn't about any real topic but just another thinly-disguised attempt to incite your fellow anti-semites and offer them some sense of legitimacy. ---------- Another Voice - Right you are. All the world could go against Israel and Israel would prevail, even if God had to use massive catastrophes to prevent the loss of HIS people, Israel. Hear, hear! ---------- Ignorant Agitator Asker - No, this sort of question is standard in DNC activist training. Pose as someone who favors something you really oppose, and as a REALLY STUPID question with inferences designed to draw anger toward those who hold the opinion you are impersonating. There is nothing paranoid about it. It is SOP for the DNC, and the DNC highly favors islamofascist and terrorist people and organizations. --------- I searched that book and have not yet found the reference you cite. Could you list the page number so I don't have to muddle through the whole thing? To some extent it is a decent global sitrep and projection, but only to the same extent that a sophomore accounting student could predict market trends. For such a 'respected scholar,' that's pretty lame, actually.
10 :
No. Israel will never be the 51st State in the USA. Americans have had enough of the hate and terrorism that has attached to our country because of Israel and its desire to dominate the world. Americans should strive to be free people, not people who blindly follow a lost faith while destroying others who don't agree. Religion is destroying America and the world. Hey Christians, Jews, and Muslims - get over yourselves. We are all just people. Try being free and thinking for yourself instead of worshiping a new world government who kills the world's population because of religious beliefs. Any person or government or religion who supports the killing of others is wrong. It's a shame people have to be told that these days. Besides, does anyone really care their tax dollars are used to kill?
11 :
I do not think it is a stupid question at all. If it was then how about Hawaii? IT will never happen of course, because Israel is Gods land and HE will keep it and the Jews . it is His favorite place on earth. When the Prince of Peace returns He, Jesus Christ, will reign from Israel.. As far as one of the answers go, Pastor Hagee is wrong regarding some of his doctrines. He needs to read the book on Americas Last Call by Dave Wilkerson. As far as the judgments of God falling on us because of Israel ....God says he will bless those that bless Israel and curse those that curse Israel. America is already in trouble with God because of the abortion issue...those are babies with a beating heart the the abortionists are destroying..they have hands , feet, eyes and a little mouth that trys to cry aloud while being aborted. Pharoh destroyed the babies as did Herod and now Obama has overturned the ban using our tax dollars to pay for abortions. In the Bible the judgment for a life, was a life and an eye for an eye. It was never recinded on the judgment for murder.

Does Washington compensate you if you leave work because of a non-work related injury

Does Washington compensate you if you leave work because of a non-work related injury?
My husband is going in for surgery to remove a couple cysts in his knee and to fix a rupture and will be missing about a week of work. Now, even though this condition is a result of the years of strenuous work from his job as a construction painter, (present and past jobs), it's not considered a work related injury. Family members in others states and in Puerto Rico have told me that in some cases, you can recieve some sort of pay or compensation for the time that you are unable to work. I have not found anything online saying that this applies in Washington. Does anyone know anything about this subject?

no, there is no such thing, and he can't put iin for unemployment since he is not available to work. If you are under the welfare level in income you can apply for various welfare programs
3 :
If you are injured on the job and your employer is required to carry workers compensation insurance, he might be eligible to receive money from that. If the injury is not job-related and the employee has elected to purchase some form of disability insurance, he might be eligible to file a claim and receive money from that. Otherwise, no, you do not receive compensation for a non-work-related injury.

My mother has worked for the government for years.... and had a similar situation. She basically had to take leave without pay. She earns a particular amount of leave each paycheck and is welcome to take as much paid leave as she wants... but once she depleats her "paid leave" account, it turns to 'leave without pay'. There was really nothing else she could do about it except "eat it", lost pay-wise...
5 :
No mam. It is not Washington's job to raise us from cradle to grave. That is why there are companies that sell short term disability insurance. This might be something that you would find in a communist or socialist country.

If democrats and republicans work together for a day in Washington, how much would be accomplished

If democrats and republicans work together for a day in Washington, how much would be accomplished?
For 24hrs straight politicians set aside their differences and selfish interest and work together on key issues plaguing the nation. No arguing, no silly slap fights. Both sides must listen to each others ideas and formulate a reason conclusion. What and how much would be accomplished? Would it be greatly significant?

Until we as Citizens begin pointing our collective fingers at our Congress and Government and saying Shame , Shame on all of you then nothing of merit will ever be accomplished . Its time we hold them accountable for all of their past actions and inaction's .

about half as much as should be. the republicans would work while the democrast sit around and watched. like the little red hen story....same thing.
8 :
The only "accomplishment" I'm interested in seeing coming out of Washington is a "bipartisan" recognition of the Constitution's limits on power of the Federal government. That would be significant.
9 :
The national debt would increase even more, with little or nothing to show for it.

Unless you have connections or extraordinary skills - preferably both - you won't get a permanent job. And I don't mean to be rude, but if you're asking on Yahoo Answers how to get a job in the White House, you won't get a job at the White House. There are a couple of other options: You can also apply through the White House Fellows program: http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/fellows/ - but this is VERY competitive. Take a look at the descriptions of the current fellows to get a sense of the requirements. And there's the Intern program: http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/internships/

Contact your local congressman or representative. Ask for information. Follow the instructions in strict detail. Be aware that all the employees for the Obama term have been hired. The next hiring will take place during a new administration, either four or eight years from now. Only the best and brightest are selected for these special assignments.

Is it illegal for me to carry my pistol at work in Washington state

Is it illegal for me to carry my pistol at work in Washington state?
I have a CPL and our company recently fired someone who threatened to "Go Columbine on our asses." I just want to wear my pistol under my coat for a couple weeks until the dust settles. If you know the laws regarding this, and can give me the R.C.W. I would appreciate it. I will talk to my HR department and I do have a permit (CPL). They didn't fire the employee for threatening, they fired him because he was a liar and treated his employees like dirt. My problem is, I am at work for 4 hours in the morning before anyone gets there.
Law & Ethics - 7 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Most work places do not allow an employee to carry a weapon. Therefore, if you do, you can be terminated. So, I suggest that you read your employee handbook or ask someone in HR.
2 :
Your company probably has a policy of no weapons on its property. You would need a license and a concealed carry permit.*
3 :
It depends on your employer. If your employer bans firearms from the workplace and informed you previous to your bringing it to work, then yes, it is illegal, and you can be fired. If you were not informed of any such policy, then no, it isn't.
4 :
If your company fired someone for threatening, what will they do to you for carrying? They don't know your intentions, and frankly, until stuff hits the fan, neither do you. Best to carry a cell phone and be observant.
5 :
Unless you work in a place where concealed carry is forbidden by law, such as a bar or a school, then there is no law on the subject. The decision is then up to your employer. In my State - California - an employer is forbidden by law from not allowing employees to keep their legal gun in a vehicle in a company parking lot or parking garage, but he may decide not to allow them to carry it on their person in the work place if he chooses. Richard
6 :
Not being from America, I can't personally understand why you would feel the need to carry a gun to work. I'm aware of the second amendment, promising not to infringe on your rights to bear arms but simply because that right is given to you does not mean you need to exercise it, in my country if someone took a gun to work with them we'd consider it highly unusual. I'd be interested to find out why you carry a gun with you to your workplace.
7 :
If you have a CPL then you should know the law!! DUH. But since you clearly do not, you can not carry a concealed weapon into any facility that has signs on the doors banning them. So check the front door. If there is a sign, then you are in violation of law and it is illegal. However, your business may have a company policy that says employees may not carry guns. In that case, carrying a concealed weapon is not illegal but it is grounds to be fired. RCW 9.41.300

Why pay Oregon income taxes if you live in Washington

Why pay Oregon income taxes if you live in Washington?
We live in Washington but work across the river in Oregon. Oregon makes me pay Oregon income taxes but we do not get to vote in Oregon, we have no say in how their schools are run and even though we pay Oregon taxes, we get no "kicker' check (which can be close to $1,000 for some people) because we don't LIVE in Oregon. Isn't this taxation without representation? How is it legal? Thank you all in advance for your thoughtful answers.

Congress has the power to regulate interstate business and it has decided you get to pay Oregon taxes because you work in Oregon. I know it seems unfair. you have the right to peaceably assemble and petition the government for a redress of your grievances. Write your CongressPerson.
2 :
That's tough. We have a similar situation here in Ohio. We live in one city, and my wife works in another and has to pay a higher city tax, which we don't get any credit for or against. 2% in the city we live. 2 1/2% where she works, for their schools and such. But we can't vote for their tax increases even though it affects us. Not sure why your situation requires you to pay out of state tax. Ask your tax man, or finicial advisor.
3 :
You have income derived from an Oregon source, so you need to pay them their tax. Working in their state qualifies you to pay their tax. Every state will be the same. If you have income derived from a source in their state (A K-1 from a partnership or an Scorp, or a job in their state, etc.), you will be paying them tax. As an example, a friend of mine works in Illinois, but had to work 3 months in Alabama for our firm. He had to file an Alabama income tax return for the money he recieved while working in Alabama. It's not fun, but, sadly, it's the law. Good question. Let me know if this is not clear enough. Hope this helps.
4 :
You pay taxes in Oregon and file state taxes with both states. You should get your money back at the end of the year form Oregon and then have to pay Washington the taxes for where you live. The is just how it is.

Would FAFSA work in Washington

Would FAFSA work in Washington?
This might be a really dumb question, but I was just wondering about it because I really want to transfer jobs from southern CA, and live up there to complete my schooling but it would cost me $2600 a QUARTER as opposed to $400 a SEMESTER here. I pay nothing right now, FAFSA covers it all except books. I'm just wondering is FAFSA a California thing or is it a financial aid program for the whole country? Would I still get awarded the same amount of money? Or would the circumstances be different and therefore they would award me more? Thanks!
Financial Aid - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

Clarification: Although one completes and submits the FAFSA form for a college/university to determine if a potential student is eligible for financial aid and the sort of financial aid package the school may offer -- the total amount, a break down into scholarships/grants and loans -- FAFSA pays nothing. FAFSA is just the application form. The financial aid is through the school you attend. To restate your question - What sort of financial aid will the school to which you wish to transfer provide? I suggest you telephone the Financial Aid Office at the college/univ. to which you wish to transfer and talk with a financial aid counselor. He/she can best answer your questions relative to that particular school. You can find info to help you figure out what your costs will be at the college to which you want to transfer by using the well-respected College Board College Quick Finder and viewing the Cost & Financial Aid info for that school. Here is the link: http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/index.jsp On the FAFSA web pages you can also get info to help estimate the amount of financial aid to which one might be eligible: FAFSA 4caster: http://www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov/ If the college/univ. to which you wish to transfer is a private/independent one (clarificiation not a for-profit/career college) - a college/univ. that is not a community college or a state supported univ., the school may have more financial aid funds specifically for its own students–scholarships/grants that do not need to be paid back - than the school you currently attend. Private/independent colleges tend to have more of this kind of $$$ than public/state supported colleges/universities. Best wishes

How does homeschool work in the state of Washington

How does homeschool work in the state of Washington?
Im in high school and thinking about starting homeschool this year. I know theres a bunch of different ways and it all depends on the state/city. Im in Federal Way, WA. I know I can call and ask but I never get a straight answer from them.
Home Schooling - 2 Answers

For homeschooling its your parents. First off, you need to know the laws. This is a very short summary in my own words. One of your parents needs to either have 45 college credits OR take a homeschool qualifying course, OR work under the supervision of a certified teacher. There is a long list of subjects you must cover Occupational education, science, math, language, social studies, history, health, reading, writing, spelling, music and art appreciation. They don't specify how long, how often, or by what method these courses should be covered in. However, technically to graduate as a homeschooler in Washington State you do need to meet the minimum graduation requirements for all students, that is 3 credits English, 3 Credits Math, 2 credits Science (one of which must be a lab science), 2.5 credits of Social studies (including 1 of US history and 1/2 of Washington State History), 1/2 credit Health, 2 Credits PE, Occupational Education 1 Credit. The rest are electives your total should add up to at least 19 credits. (These are the minimum requirements, not what you will need for college, that is considerably more). Your parents must file a Declaration of Intent to homeschool with the local superintendent every year, and must maintain records of your standardized test scores, your academic records (think report card), and your immunization records. Every year you need to take a standardized test, or have an evaluation performed by a certified teacher, but it doesn't have to be the Public School disaster known as the WASL. There is a long list of acceptable tests. I don't have it handy right now. Some acceptable tests can be obtained through: http://www.familylearning.org More info on the laws in our state, and local support groups, can be obtained from: http://www.washhomeschool.org There is also an option in Washington to do Public School at home. This is not, from a legal standpoint, homeschooling, but some people like it. You can find out more about that at: http://www.wava.org
2 :
You just have to get your parents' permission. You will probably have to sign up and talk with a school that you are going to take your standardized testing at. It's good to know the people you will work with. Good Luck ;)

Are there rules resticting the hours that builders can work in Washington State

Are there rules resticting the hours that builders can work in Washington State?
We live in a new house, the house across the street is being built. The builders sometimes have 4am deliveries on huge semi trucks which is very noisy, wakes our whole house. The builders usually start actually working before 7am. Today ( a saturday) I was looking forward to a quiet day, but the builders are out there again well before 8 am being very loud. What are the restrictions? Are there any? Thanks! Quizzard, I appreciate your response. I accept some noise, heck Ive been listening to it all week long......i was just hoping for a quiet weekend...the builder actually told us when we moved in that they would not work on weekends. Maybe we could send a huge semi truck to your neighborhood in the middle of the night!
Law & Ethics - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Call up your local police, noise ordinances are generally local laws, not state. 6 am to 10 pm here in my city. 4 am deliveries seems insane, I would complain.
2 :
Those are city or county rules, not state wide. Typically, 7 am to 10 pm is common. I know of no locale that allows work at 4 am. Saturday is usually allowed, Sunday not always. You have to consider this: you live in a new house. How do you think the neighbors enjoyed YOUR home being built? It's a pain, but construction is a necessary part of life with neighbors.
3 :
You really can't prevent the early start times, it is a conflict of interest because the builders are on a schedule. I am a truck driver and many locations that I deliver to have notes about noise. Some locations specify that we are not to arrive at the customer earlier than 1 hour before delivery. You may be able to talk to the site manager about this, he or she may be able to tell the customers that they buy from to instruct the drivers to stay away until the appointment times. It shouldn't'[t be to much hassle for the site manager to do this, but be prepared if he acts like he can't do it because he can. Just tell him you have a friend that is a truck driver and he told you they do this sort of thing all the time and it's not a big deal.

8 hours commuting for 8 hours of work? Insanity. Telecommute or move.
2 :
That is insane. Its a 7+ hour drive depending on traffic. I would say move to maryland
3 :
No It's not doable at all if you're driving . If you clear the Lincoln Tunnel at 6:00 AM sooner or later on your way south you're gonna hit some big city's inbound rush hour traffic On the return the opposite happens ;first you gotta deal with outbound DC traffic and then you gotta deal with outbound Baltimore traffic Then there is the NJTPK and all of it's legendary traffic jams to contend with If your job pays well enough to use Amtrak 2x day it may be worth the time But no way in H can do you do it if you're driving
4 :
8 hrs on the road round trip, and 8 hours at work? no it's not doable. you will be totally exhausted. and this is the assumption if traffic is good. my suggestion is either move to d.c. or find another job
5 :
Not recommended at all. Among many other problems, the cost of gas and tolls and wear on your car would be extremely high.

How does cell phone service in Washington DC metro tunnels work?
I am wondering because my college's student union has bad cell phone reception. I am on the SGA and I would like to know what kind of technologies we can use to improve service.
Cell Phones & Plans - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The only way to get reception in a tunnel is to put a bunch of antennas in the tunnel. If you want to boost signal then you need to put more antennas in and don't space them as far apart.
2 :
There are a series of repeaters. What they do is grab the signal from a nearby tower and and shoot a longer range than the original tower. They are cheaper than putting another transmitter (tower), and they don't require near the power supply, data connection, and/or space to operate. However, obviously, they don't have the range of the towers. Contact your provider, they will often report the less than desirable coverage and dispatch an engineer to check to see if anything can be done to improve it.
3 :
As far as I know, Verizon is the only provider who has service in the tunnels. I use my cell all of the time down there.

Louisiana Hot Boy: Voting Present does not at all mean a bill is not ready for a vote. It means "I cannot make up my mind." Many votes where Obama voted "Present" have passed. Obviously they are ready to be voted on if they passed.
8 :
There are many different reasons to vote "present", and it's sometimes a display of fortitude or commitment to vote "present". On the other hand, there's nothing honorable about McCain's voting record, he has skipped more votes during this session than any member of the Senate except for Tim Johnson, who had major brain surgery
9 :
I think he should go back and give a straight up "aye" or "nay" vote. But you know that isn't what's going to happen. He won't show up for the vote at all, and then he'll spend the next 4 years telling voters that "I did not vote to pass the Bush bailout bill." And the voters will buy it, because most of them are unable to do their own research and find out that he didn't vote against it - he didn't vote at all. And of course, if the bailout bill has a positive effect on the economy, he will claim that he published his bailout plan before Bush's plan was publicized, and that obviously Bush took major sections of Obama's plan, and that Obama didn't need to go back to Washington to vote "aye" on a plan that was actually his to begin with and that he knew the Senate would pass. Did anybody listen to his press conference today? Did you count how many times he said "I"? "I", "me," "my." It was all about HIM and what HE thinks. And did you hear his answer to that first question? He spent what, 10 minutes on Democrat talking points before he ever got down to answering the actual question that was asked? Go to Washington, Obama. Vote. For a change, cast your vote FOR or AGAINST. No more voting "present" as a cop-out. You think a president should be a multi-tasker? Well, most of the people of this country want a president who has the guts to take a stand. No more media sound bites. You're a senator. GO VOTE.

My Canadian girlfriend is a dental hygienist and wants to work in Washington State

My Canadian girlfriend is a dental hygienist and wants to work in Washington State?
She only has 2 years of experience. She's passed all the board exams, the Washington requirements as well, such as the health tests, AIDS classes, etc. I live in Seattle and we want to know the fastest way for her to start working here. Which VISA application should she fill out, and is there a way to expedite the process? Would it help is she had an employer sponsor her? Basically, since NAFTA doesn't cover dental hygienists, we are looking for the fastest way to get her working down here. Thanks. PS - personal experience descriptions are encouraged. Thanks again! She wants to work here so that we can live together. Currently I live in Seattle and she lives in B.C. My girlfriend has actually passed the National Board Exam AND the Regional Board Exam. She did all of the stuff she needs to do to be licensed in WA, including the part where she has to get a volunteer patient. Now we just need to know how she should apply for her visa. Which papers to fill out, should she try to get a sponsor, etc. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Ryan.

Yes, that would be good if she had an employer sponsor her. Why does she want to work here in Washington? Just curious. Here are some website to look at.
2 :
Sadly dentistry is not like the medical field. She would most likely have to take the US national written board test AND the regional clinical exam for washington area. Groups of states in the USA have their own regional exam. Which means a hygienist from massachusetts CANT transfer to CA because they would have to take a whole new clinical exam to get a license in CA from Mass. And it is hard to do. First of all the test is about 800 dollars and you have to find a specific type of patient to work on and a testing site (a school) that will allow you to test there. The US government has basically made it impossible for a hygienist to leave a set amount of states and work in another region of the USA. She would most likely have to retest. She needs to contact your state's dental board to find out what she needs to do.

What are the tax implications of living in Washington State and working in Idaho

What are the tax implications of living in Washington State and working in Idaho?
I am looking at taking a job in Idaho and am wondering if it is a bad idea to live in Washington and work in Idaho. I know that I will have to pay Idaho income tax regardless of my location, but am wondering if Washington will charge me anything. I will be living in an apartment, so property taxes are not an issue.

Any attorneys want to represent me for being illegally suspended from work, in marysville Washington? lawyers

Any attorneys want to represent me for being illegally suspended from work, in marysville Washington? lawyers?
Here's the deal. I worked at a fast food company, as a assistant manager, but was never put on the assistant managers salary, because my boss said he just didn't get around to it. My boss opened up his joint in a navybase, and broke all the rules when it came to giving out free food to certain people. I told him not too. And I told the employees not too. However he overruled me everytime, enforcing that I had no authority over that specific issue. So after he left, and the new boss took over, the employees continued to give out free food after I told them not too, because it was breaking navy and company rules. However by this time they still never listened to me. Well I told my bosses boss what had happened, and instead of being thanked. I was held responsible for every piece of free food that was ever given out. Even though it wasen't me allowing it. However because I was the assistant manager, I am now suspended for my boss breaking the rules. Please tell me what to do?

I need help with work and Washington state laws!

I need help with work and Washington state laws!?
Ok I currently reside in Seattle, Wa and I work for a well known bakery in most malls! I was wondering is it legal to work someone by themselves from anywhere from 5-7 hours and tell them you can not leave the store. Which means you can not go to the bathroom! Then you are not given any brake. I was told because we are allowed to eat the food we serve they can get away from this. Is this true? There is one bathroom in the mall ( pretty small mall). I normally would put a sign up that says be back in 5 minutes then run to the bathroom. which is 4 stores away from where I work. My district manager has told us not to do that and to hold it until a replacement shows. This is the honest to god truth.

No. Federal law states that you must take an unpaid 1/2 hour break after 5 hours. I have never heard of a food business not having a bathroom, even in malls. I think you are pushing the truth here.
2 :
I would suggest that you go online and locate the US Dept of Labor office that serves the area you live in, then contact them for answers.
3 :
As an employee working full time you have the right to a ten minute break every two hours and a 30 minute meal break fro every eight hour day worked. This is not only state but federal law. If you're employer is violating the law then you need to report him/her to Washington State Labor and Industries as they enforce labor laws for your state.

Personal injury against an insurance company is about the only thing that ever is done on contingency. Chances of finding anyone in these specializations are poor to nil.

I have no idea what any of this means, but if you're looking for a good lawyer referral service you could try http://www.badproducts.com. They helped me find a lawyer in my area for a malpractice case. It seemed like they had a pretty long list of contacts, so maybe they could find one who can help you too.

Will my spouses income be taxed if she is a resident of Nevada but works in Washington

Will my spouses income be taxed if she is a resident of Nevada but works in Washington?
I'm in the military. My spouse is a Nevada resident (no state taxes), but we are moving to Washington. If she gets a job there would she pay taxes in Washington or none for Nevada? Or Both?

she's gonna pay the washington taxes . Taxation depends on the place where you reside and work at the moment and not where you originate from .
2 :
Washington State does not have an income tax. So, neither.
3 :
When your spouse takes a job in Washington and also lives in Washington she becomes a resident of the state of Washington and her income from employment within the state will be taxed by that state. Only the military member can continue to claim state residency in another state from where they are stationed (and employed.) By the way, I don't believe Nevada has a state Income tax.
4 :
You must report income to the state in which you work. The same income you must also report to the state which is your tax home. Read about taxes for two states: http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/06/working-in-two-or-more-states.html

Do I need to pay Oregon state tax? (Live/work in Washington. Wife lives/works in Oregon)

Do I need to pay Oregon state tax? (Live/work in Washington. Wife lives/works in Oregon)?
My wife works and lives in Portland, Oregon (Oregon resident). I works and lives in Washington (Washington resident). I have zero Oregon income. Recently I got mail notice asking me to pay Oregon state tax for all my Washington income. That sounds absurd --- I feel that I should not pay ANY Oregon tax. I called them and someone then told me I need pay Oregon state tax for 50% of my Washington income, due to some law between Oregon and Washington. Question: Do I really need to pay the Oregon tax? If so, is it 50% percent? Thank you for the guidance/advice. My wife and I filed Federal Return together, and State Tax return seperately. My company in Washington is >$200 miles from Portland. Sorry it is hard to locate a job in Portland. We filed state tax seperately. My wife is Oregon resident. I am Washington resident. I moved from Michigan to Washington, since i can not find a job in Portland.

Dear B:: Multiple states are not easy to file as there are many different scenarios. In your case it looks like if you file MFJ (Jointly) you will have to allocate the income between OR and WA. Your income taxed in WA and hers in OR. I would get advice from a tax pro who lives near you and has experience with the OR/WA issue. Another way to do it is to file MFS for each state if that is permitted by law. Also some states allow a credit for taxes paid to another state. It is unusual for your spouse to live in another state, that complicates the issue also. You should not have any tax liability to OR. This advice was prepared based on our understanding of the tax law in effect at the time it was written as it applies to the facts that you provided. Click on my profile to read more. You live and work in Washington, a community property state with no state income tax. Your wife lives and works in Oregon, a seperate property state with state income tax. If you and your wife are a community and you file jointly (married filing jointly) half of your Washington community property income is you wife's. That half is taxable to her state of residance. There may be some tax relief between Washingtion and Oregon. You should consult a tax professional, such as an EA, who has experience with both states.
3 :
Yes need a tax expert. I have the same issues. Not a simple answer. We file married but separate, but we have other issues also. Typically you take ALL the family income. Then come up with a percent of time in Oregon and multiply all the income by that for oregon.... But as I said, not quite that simple. If you wife lived in Washington, then only her income would be subject to Oregon tax. Sounds like they are saying YOU are also an Oregon resident.
4 :
your 'tax home' is where you work, and for your wife, there is no question, but for you, your 'tax home' is Washington filing jointly is probably causing you this problem, therefore you probably should file separately
