I want to work in the Washington DC area, but I'm afraid because the cost of living is 90% higher?
90% higher than where I live. I'd like to work for the federal government. What should I do?

though it may seem expensive, the cost of living isnt that bad. And your job should be able to support yourself, if not then its not worth it

I'm sorry, I have to diagree, the cost of living may not be bad, but the cost of housing is. Do what most people do.... live in the outer suburbs and commute in! Or, a lot of the federal government has locations now outside of DC in the less expensive areas of VA & MD. Check into those too.

Pay for many jobs is adjusted accordingly to cost of living. Maybe not perfectly so, but should allow you to live reasonably in the DC area. Depending on your age and situation, many younger people live with a roommate. That helps enormously with costs. Also, many people live somewhere convenient to Metro, so as not to need a car. It's also possible to find modestly priced and reasonable places to live by looking on Craigslist. Also, I know Whole Foods (or "Whole Paycheck") is a popular place to buy groceries. But, there are other supermarkets (Safeway, Giant, Harris Teeter, Shoppers). Also, there is Costco here which can help with keeping costs down.

Can my work require me to purchase clothing on condition of promotion?
I work in Washington state, in a retail environment. Is it legal for my work to require me to purchase merchandise on condition of promotion?

They can as they have made it part of their term and conditions of employment. Any employer can issue a standard regarding dress code, and it is up to the employee to abide by this.

1. U may hv to wear uniform for the work & the material they want u to purchase from the store where u work . This is a valid demand. 2. If they want u to purchase other things from the retail store, it is better u purchase fr there as u need to keep good rapport with them for going up the ladder ( in career). They may also give some discount for the purcahse as many orgs do. 3. Dont get worked up as these are all trivials. If otherwise , u r happy & satisfied in the job, carry out wht they want. 4. If u dont like the job, get another job & then leave this one. All the Best !!

Does anyone know where i an get cheap dental work in Washington state? I'm out of work and need dental care badly. Thanks for any help.

Good luck with that. But if you have decent credit go to www.carecredit.com and apply for a line of credit. I believe it is 18 months interest free and low payments. It is just like having a dental credit card. Then find an office who takes it, they usually have a lower price for that program.

I would encourage you to visit this wonderful website: www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago and they have saved me thousands of dollars over the years on all services. . From root canals, xrays, exams, fillings...etc. All services are included in this very affordable Plan. Then if nessarcary, work out a payment plan with the dentist to make it affordable to you. They even had my extremely affordable benefits active in 2 hours and was able to use them the very same day. good luck and hope this helps.
